In October 2010 Márcio Carvalho developed the second version of his project Appointment, this time meeting with Kortrijk, a city in Belgium, in the framework of a residency at KunstCentrum Buda.
Appointment with Kortrijk built a map of relations between the artist and the city surroundings of Kortrijk, using its spaces, population, objects and quotidians. The relations were recorded in the formats of video, photography, text and sound. Seven videos, a live performance and writings about the experiences within the city landscapes were produced.
Now, after 2 months, Re-visiting Kortrijk, examines the appointments made during the residency. In a live documentation of memories, the artist aims to create a relation between the life he lived in Kortrijk and the memories of it.
A documentation will be made during the live presentation. It is a vital part of the performance narrative and essential for the understanding of it. Working about past and present memory, the artist aims to open a discussion about the act of documentation as a tool to extend, physically and conceptually, the performance in time.
The concept of Appointment was originally developed in a collaboration between the Chinese artist Yingmei Duan and Márcio Carvalho in June 2010.
